We have all imagined ourselves being in the middle of a zombie apocalypse and being surrounded by that flesh eating horde of the undead. The thing is that we have to remain calm as the blade of our weapon gleams in the light, we raise it ready to strike the final blow. Now let’s get back to reality here. Even though mental preparation is important, most of us will never use these blades in real life. Odds are that we won’t have the actual skills to wield weapons like katana’s properly anyway but if we’re fighting an unskilled zombie we’ll have all the skills we need. Lets hope they’re not like the zombies in World War Z (one of my favorite zombie movies) or else we won’t stand a chance.
So before you start using melee weapons you have to be close to a zombie. The fact that you are that close to a zombie means that you are going to be infected or you will be ripped to shreds as zombies devour your flesh. Which those are fates that you don’t want to be a part of.
Every Zombie survival guide will tell you that the only way to survive a zombie attack is to either hide or fight. Choosing the right weapon does matter, you should pick a weapon that you will be comfortable with and have the skill level to use it. Below are the most popular weapons that you should consider if you are in a zombie apocalypse survival situation.

Machetes
This weapon has been a favorite to use in subtropical and tropical regions, because it can cut through the rainforest undergrowth easily. The agricultural purposes and household tasks like using this weapon as a kitchen knife works. The machete is like a cleaver. The blade can be up to 24 inches long and usually around 3 mm thick. It was designed to be a slashing tool as well as weapon. The machete is versatile enough to really assist with some daily zombie apocalyptic scenarios. There are options like in this image:
Or you can go for something a little more traditional like a kukri. A kukri is a traditional Indian or Nepalese weapon. It has been used in ceremonies as well as religious rights. It also has some pretty practical uses as well like cutting down small trees, clearing brush, and splitting logs. In most cases it is still the most basic and traditional utility weapon. It does range in length, but it can be about 2 feet long. It is best to have the longest blade. The kukri has a forward drop that will weigh it out evenly which is located on the end of the blade on the end of the blade that allows you to have harder and more forceful hit.

Specialist weapons
There are many specialist weapons to survive a post apocalyptic Zombieland but you really can’t go past the classics like swords and axes. One specialist weapon that is really cool is below
Ninja Forearm Machete
This is a solid piece of black stainless steel that is almost 18 inches long. The handle has a good grip and straps that will wrap around the forearm to give you extra support. This was made to be an extension to the body of the person using it. It is lightweight, flawless, and functional. You will be able to chop a zombie’s head off or just take the infection out with a single stab to the brain. You may have seen this used in the BloodRayne video games, but it works.
The verdict
For more long range defense, another cool weapon could be to use a survival bow and use appropriate arrows.
When it comes down to having the right type of melee weapon for your zombie apocalypse, these are what you will see being used the most. You can’t go wrong with this slash and kill type of weapons. If you don’t have any of the above weapons, try a baseball bat.
